Visual Language: Test
Thought i would see how my work looked on brighter paper. Being scared of colour i have never tried this, even though it is such a simple idea. I like the way it gets rid of the stale contrast between black and white, somehow letting the image sit better on the page
Definitely excited to try out different colour paper for this brief. I would like to look into the below, to see what background...
Visual Language: The Call of Cthulhu
I have definitely found my first story to illustrate! Just read this story by H.P. Lovecraft now and It is exactly the sort of thing i want to include in my collection of stories.

I have highlighted 5 areas i think would be good for interpretation and aim to get going with it now:
1: The Figure
“This thing, which seemed...
“That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death my die.”
Visual Language: Hmm
Can’t get enthusiastic about this brief at all. I can’t decide what i want to do at all. Kind of thinking about going back to the original idea i had of illustrating a series of short stories. It would be simple as there would be less content to work with, but more scope for experimentation and image development
Visual Language: Super-heros
I had a very intense conversation with a fellow student today about my book, and how i can create some sort of narrative and more distinct direction for my book. The conversation hurt my head at times, but definitely helped [Thanks Jake!]
I decided that using both Blues music and Doom music just wouldnt work properly under 1 book. So what i came up with is yet another alteration to my project...
Visual Language: Colour
I would really like to take this brief as an opportunity to work with colour in ways i have yet to attempt. I would be lying if i were to say I am confident using large amounts of colour, so i think forcing this on myself would really allow me to expand and develop.
Visual Language: Satan's Playlist
After going through and looking back on the collection of music i had in mind for this book, i noticed that they both fit into 2 categories.
- Doom http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_metal
- BluesÂ
Both of these genres of music have ties with Satanic thought and preconceptions. I would like to present a collection of this music, but i am still struggling for a purpose/direction in which the...
Visual Language: Idea Development 2 - Satan's...
Okay i still think my brief is too broad. I need to do something more refined and related. I think the problem lies in the ‘collection’ i am using. I think i need to narrow this down for progress to be made.
At the moment, i am very interested in bringing darker elements to my work, concentrating on the more sinister values and attributes of character. I prefer the Villain to the...
Visual Language: Idea Development
So I tried to start my work tonight and i feel that the brief i have set is too broad at the moment. I need a definitive direction for my drawings to go down, both to allow some sort of trait to collate all my drawings together, and to allow me to work towards a certain aim within the drawing.
This lead me to think about maybe personifying the music i am collecting and ‘documenting’....
Visual Language: Plan of Action
Having a whole month until our next meeting with our tutors gives me a very lengthy stint of undirected work to get done. I plan on using this time to get on with the illustration of my itunes library of music. I would like to loosely stick to drawing 2 bands a day over the holidays. This will get me through a large amount of my collection.
Obviously some of the days i will be able to draw a...
Visual Language: itunes
I have been thinking about a solution to my problem regarding using music as my collection for this brief. I think itunes may be able to help me with this:
- How do i narrow down which song/lyric i use to illustrate each band?
I could use the most played song within the band as the chosen song, using the most significant lyric within, or the song as a whole to develop my drawings around - there...
Visual Language: Music??
Had a tutorial today sort of [had to jump in on Christian’s as my tutor didn’t turn up, i forget why]. Looks like this should be a sweet brief.
So from the tutorial came the below developments of my ‘collection’:
- A collection of illustrated stories
- A collection of illustrations of pre-existing stories [why go through the trouble of writing my own when there is a...
Visual Language: Sci-fi
Over the last year my interest in Sci-fi has grown a lot. Over the summer i produced the below mini-tale which i had totally forgotten about. Although i am not all that pleased on the work produced - after the Comm Tech 2 brief i know i can produce better work, I would love to create a tale, or even a series of tales of my own and collect them in a book for this brief. I guess tomorrow’s...
Visual Language: Brief attack
I have been very confused with this from the word go. But I am slowly trying to wrap my head around the brief and what we are required to do:
Definitions of collection on the Web:
several things grouped together or considered as a whole
a publication containing a variety of works
the act of gathering something together
Definitions of collecting on the Web:
collection: the act of...
Off riding today :) should be interesting

Just realised i had the bands Witchcraft and Witch mixed up for the last 2weeks. retard
