Hmmm, not sure if i like doing this to be honest. I like it once i have got to where i need to ‘report’ and have sorted out permissions etc, but asking people if i can take pictures is just plain gay in my book.
Going to maybe mess around with illustrations of a selection of the below tonight and see what happens, I’ll probably throw a tantrum after 5minutes and cuss the night away though, so don’t expect much!
Ive been reading this manifesto that this serial killer from the 90’s wrote about society. It’s pretty heavy, and definitely shows his sociopathic tendency’s as its full of anger and hypocrisy, but it has some good points to it! Ill let you know what I think about it when i finish it.
Aparently the guy lived on his own in this little cabin in the woods. Pretty spooky coincidence that i find out about him when im doing a book project on Dens and Sheds haha. Hopefully not all the people i meet that have Dens use them to plot terrorist acts and build bombs…
I met Tom Minns a while back now, and haven’t seen him in ages too, he probably doesn’t even know my name like most people i meet haha. oh well. I love his work, probably one of the main reasons why i applied for Vis Com if im being honest.
Seems he knows pretty much everyone that is sound in the BMX scene, across the world haha. I wish i was mates with half the people he is.
I also saw this T-shirt a while back by Suburban Bliss. I love most illustrations if it involves woodland creatures or monsters haha. I particularly enjoy this mans beard, it reminds me of that nursery rhyme about the man that had birds living in his beard. One day i hope to be able to do line work like this guy’s beard. What a strange ambition in life…
Was rummaging through some crap in my room today and found my old drawings from when i was about 6. Damn was i a violent child! But atleast i labelled my diagrams of war haha.
After spending a good half an hour laughing, i calmed down and actually thought to myself, could this labelling work for my new book? it’d certainly have to be done in a more legible way, but, it could definitely add an interesting documentary style whilst allowing me to highlight certain aspects of each illustration. Ill have a gander into it and upload the results and a conclusion shortly!
I noticed also that In there studio Brendan Monroe and Evah Fan have a print by Daniel Anthony St. George 2nd. Daneil St. George has some pretty a pretty sweet illustration style. I love the way he always puts a photo-montage element into his work.
This is one of his prints that i bought. I wish i had a frame for it :(
As you might be able to tell, my camera still isnt working ha
Before i started University, I had a year out from education, in this time i refined and developed my own illustration style from a wide range of influences, such as other illustrator’s work, the world around me and any experience i gained from things that happened in my life. Whilst developing my illustration style into something i was satisfied with and enjoyed, i realised that everything i draw is motionless. Each character i draw just seems to be stood in the middle of the page, not really saying or doing much. I tried very hard to get out of the rut, but with no luck. So I guess what i really want to do, now I am back in education, is to create some movement in my drawings. This applies to both the physical stature of the characters i create, and the progression to another level within illustration. This could involve bringing my illustrations to a another media, such as a 3D medium or maybe animation. To be honest, I don’t know where exactly i want to take my illustrations, all i know is i want to stop drawing the same character, in the same pose, with the same expression, in the same clothing, for the same reason!
I have had another tumblr blog now for just over a year. I don’t update it much like, i try to update it once a month. Last friday i managed to get some little books i printed into some shops in leeds. One being OK Comics and the other being Paper Scissor Stone. Obviously its not a massive deal but its the first step and i am quite pleased. If you want to find out more Ive put the blog address below:
